Biography

Guido Dietl received the Dipl.-Ing. and Dr.-Ing. degrees (both summa cum laude) in Electrical Engineering from the Technische Universität München (TUM, Munich University of Technology), Munich, Germany, in 2001 and 2006, respectively.

He has been with the TUM from 2001 to 2006 where he was working as a Research Engineer on reduced-rank signal processing in Krylov subspaces and on its application to wireless multiuser communications. In Winter 2000/2001 and Summer 2004, he was a Guest Researcher at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA. In Fall 2005, he visited the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra, ACT, Australia. He joined DOCOMO Communications Laboratories Europe GmbH (DOCOMO Euro-Labs), Munich, Germany, as a Senior Researcher in 2006, managed the Advanced Radio Transmission Team, and worked as a Research Specialist on multicell multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications until the end of 2017. From April 2010 to July 2011, Guido Dietl was an Adjunct Lecturer at the Technische Universität München (TUM, Munich University of Technology) and since March 2012, he is a Professor of Communications Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Landshut. In September 2014, he visited the Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai, China, as a Guest Professor.

Dr. Dietl received the VDE Award for his Diploma thesis in 2001, the Kurt Fischer Award of the TUM for his dissertation in 2007, the Förderpreis der ITG 2007, i.e., an award of the Informationstechnische Gesellschaft (ITG, Information Technology Society in VDE), also for his dissertation, and the DOCOMO Euro-Labs Company Award for technology transfer in the area of multicell MIMO communications in 2010.

He is Senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and member of the Verband der Elektrotechnik Elektronik Informationstechnik e.V. (VDE, German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies).

His main research interests are all types of MIMO communications (massive, mmWave, near-field, multicell, multiuser, etc.), wireless sensor networks, software defined radios, and digital signal processing.
